By a show of hands, how many of you think it’s true that life is tough?
I used to think this was true and sometimes I still fall prey to this disempowering thought. But now it’s much easier to shift my thinking back to empowering thoughts.
It’s true that life isn’t always easy, but the fact is …. That’s completely okay! Why would I need life to be easy all of the time? I can hardly even imagine how incredibly boring that would be.
I earned a bachelors and a masters degree, each in accounting, while working 40 hours plus, and finished in 5 years. I passed all four parts of the CPA exam my first try. I have been fairly successful in my career.
None of that was easy.
If any of those things were easy, they would not really be accomplishments, would they? I don’t consider getting up and brushing my teeth an accomplishment. It was a goal and I completed it, but after the first few times I did this, it was not really challenging. And since I’ve done it thousands of times now, I would say it’s easy.
If I did any of those things — earning degrees, taking the CPA exam, becoming successful at each of the jobs I’ve held over the past thirty or so years – thousands of times, I would probably feel like they were easy also. Similarly, anything that life throws at me, if I were to do it enough times, would eventually become easy.
In the moment, life can feel tough. That’s when I like to stop and remember that it doesn’t have to feel that way. It’s okay to feel this way, but I just like to remind myself that it’s totally optional. When I’m afraid to fail, it feels tough. But when I remember that the only failure is not doing it and that the rest is just learning how, it feels more like an adventure, which is way more exciting than tough!
On my entrepreneurial journey, right now lots of things often feel tough. I’m doing most of this stuff for the very first time and it can feel pretty scary. But I don’t give up easily. I might whine a little, cry a little, complain a little, sigh A LOT
😬, but I hang in there. How? I coach myself, I stay connected to God, I ask for help, I have faith, I allow myself to feel whatever I’m feeling, I make conscious choices, I have love and compassion for myself AND sometimes I just do it scared.

Sometimes life feels tough but guess what. I’m tough too — and I’m taking an educated guess that so are you.
What is tough for you right now?
