Ep 14: Let Your True Identity Shine

In this episode, I share my thoughts on who you are and who you’re becoming.

What’s hiding your true identity and keeping you from making more money as a coach are the lies that you believe about yourself and about money. I have space right now in my program and nothing would make me happier than to help you expose those lies and uncover the truth about who you are as an entrepreneur and a coach.

Guest Post Written by Ceri Payne

Have you ever been leaving from a friend’s birthday party, and your 4-year-old rushes up to the hostess to ask if they can bring home an extra piece of cake or goodie bag to give to her sister?

I have, more than once, and I was always so embarrassed!

I have a 16-year old daughter who is very outgoing, not afraid of authority, will tell a teacher when they have made a mistake, and always asks for and gets what she wants. She’s always been this way. She was that 4-year-old at the party.

No matter where we went, she came home with something that she wanted that she has asked for. She wasn’t scared to ask an adult where the bathroom was in a store. She wasn’t nervous to ask the waiter for more chips, their cool pen, or a free dessert.

I was so embarrassed that she asked everyone for what she wanted.

I thought it wasn’t polite.

I thought people were judging me for allowing her to ask.

I was hot with shame, thinking, “good moms don’t let their kids do this.”

As a brand new 14-year-old, this daughter wanted a job. I told her that the stores didn’t hire till 16, but she didn’t let that stop her. No matter where we went, she asked if they would hire her. She filled out every online application she could find. She spent hours calling stores to find out the age you had to be to work there. She even tried to talk them into making an exception. And she got a job at 14 then another one at 15!

I’m still somewhat embarrassed but for an entirely different reason.

That I didn’t recognize what am fantastic quality this is to have!

I’m in awe that I have a confident daughter that isn’t afraid to ask for what she wants. She didn’t give up!

She made the impossible possible!

I’m often reminded, we can learn so much from our children if we put our fears of what other people think of us, and our ego aside.

Is there something that you want, but you’re too afraid to ask for?

Are you working on being a great mom while growing a business?

Ep 13: Questions About Money

How can kids be so confident?
How can they believe in anything?
Kids have zero evidence that they can do anything.
They have no area of expertise; they are lacking in knowledge and experience.

They have every reason NOT to believe and yet they do. How is that possible?

What makes a successful entrepreneur?

Who would be a more successful first time entrepreneur? A 10-year old or a 40-year old?

You would think the 40-year old would be hands down more successful, but I’m not convinced.

While the 40-year old has way more life experience and more financial resources, the 10-year old is more open and curious, has less worry and fear and a more abundant mindset.

Success as an entrepreneur takes a lot of courage, curiosity and imagination. The word entrepreneur is sometimes defined as, “a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.”

One of the key characteristics of an entrepreneur is being willing to take risks. A 10-year old is willing to take risks. They are curious and imaginative. So, it’s possible a 10-year old might be more successful as an entrepreneur.

So how can a 40-year old combine their strengths of life experience and expertise with that 10-year old curiosity, imagination and willingness to take risks? How might that make them more successful in business?

I know that not everyone grows up in a situation where kids can be kids, trusting the adults in their life, having all their physical, emotional and educational needs met, not having to worry. But I think everyone might be able to imagine what that might be like.

And try to imagine what that might be like to go to a time like that, a worry-free time, now after being an adult with lots of worries and fears.

What would that feel like?

I had the honor of helping out at a small day camp this week at my church. When I volunteer for the kid’s ministry at church, I usually think about what I can teach the kids. But this time I thought about what these kids might be able to teach us. I wondered what youthful imagination, wisdom and insight they might offer you.

I interviewed a few of them for my podcast, which comes out on Fridays. And here on this week’s blog, I’m sharing some of the types of questions I asked them.

Here’s the challenge I have for you. During your next thought download or self-coaching time, ask yourself some of these questions. But don’t answer them as your current self. Instead, become a childlike version of yourself so you can anchor yourself in a place where you have a very active imagination, where you’re free of worry and fear about the future, free from worry about judgment, free from the pain or pressure to make money. Ask the questions from that place and see where your imagination takes you.

Here are the questions I want you to ask yourself. You don’t have to answer all of them, but choose a few that perhaps you might be struggling with as an adult and ask them to that kid inside you.

* What if money is something God lets us use to see if we’ll trust Him or ourselves? How can we be responsible with our money?

* What are you really good at that you could do for someone to earn money? How much do you think someone would be willing to pay for that? If that’s something you really wanted or needed, what would you be willing to pay for it?

* How do businesses make money? What do you think about businesses and about money? What do you think about your ability to make money by having a business?

* How much money do you wish you had? Why? What would you do with the money? How much does God want you to have? How much do your Mom and Dad want you to have? Why would God or your parents want that for you? How will that make you feel when you have that?

* What do you want to be good at? Why? How would you get good at that? What don’t you need to be good at? Why?

* What do you need to be happy? What do you wish you had that you don’t have? How does God give you everything you need?

When you finish answering the questions you’ve chosen, do a 2-minute download of what you want to implement in your business from that childlike imagination.

I really want to hear what you came up with. DM me at @JillWrightCoaching on Facebook or Instagram and share with me what gift of imagination you unwrapped in this exercise.

Did you know that I still have a couple spots open in my M.A.S.T.E.R. Your Relationship With Money program?

Warning: Don’t Make the Wrong Decisions

Ha! Don’t make the wrong decisions. Thank you Captain Obvious!

As if we make the wrong decisions on purpose!

What if it was possible to NEVER make the wrong decision again? Sounds impossible, right? WRONG!

I believe it’s IMPOSSIBLE to make the wrong decision. And I’m going to argue my case for you here. Then you can DECIDE J for yourself!

Which one feels more true to you? Say them out loud and notice how you feel when you say each one.
A.“There’s no such thing as a wrong decision.”
B. “I always choose the wrong decision.”

For the clients that come to me, they more often believe that they make a lot of bad decisions, especially when it comes to money. So we spend a lot of time in my program walking through their decision making process and helping them see why they make the wrong decisions.

And since that has been so helpful for them, I thought I would share some of what I do with my clients with you. Today, I’m going to expose the lie that you make the wrong decisions, so you NEVER have to make the wrong decision ever again.

Do you ever get stuck in indecision? Ever indulge in confusion when you’re trying to make a decision? I have. It’s pretty common for people with scarcity mindset to have trouble making decisions. And here’s why I think that is. When we have a scarcity mindset, when we’re believing money lies, money is limited. We either don’t have enough, or if we do have enough, we’re terrified that we’ll lose what we do have.

There’s this never-ending struggle for enough that’s like an annoying buzzing sound that you can’t figure out where it’s coming from and you can never quite get away from.

Here’s what I’ll cover today:

  • Why we get stuck in indecision and why it’s painful
  • Why it feels good to get out of indecision and why it doesn’t last
  • Why we make it the wrong decisions
  • How to make decisions
  • How we can always make any decision the right decision

The reasons that we get stuck when making decisions is that we (1) believe we always make the wrong decision, (2) we find/create evidence that we always make the wrong decision (because our brains are designed to find evidence of what we believe) (3) we’ve avoided making decisions so many time that it just becomes part of who we are, and (4) we want to avoid being wrong or making a mistake and the feelings that come with that.

The biggest reason that you stay stuck in indecision is because the pain of indecision doesn’t feel as bad as you think you’ll feel if you make the WRONG decision. Because your brain has you convinced that making the WRONG decision will be the end of the world as you know it. And not only that, you’ll look bad if you make the wrong decision.
AND because of the evidence your brain has for your track record for making decisions, it convinces you that you will most definitely make the wrong decision.

Indecision is less painful than the consequences of making the wrong decision. You assume that you’ll make the wrong decision. That’s why you stay stuck in indecision.

But even though indecision is less painful than being wrong and suffering the perceived consequences, there’s no doubt that indecision is plenty painful. Because indecision uses up a ton of mental energy and leaves us craving certainty. Our brains hate uncertainty.

How do you get unstuck? How do you relieve your brain of feeling uncertain?

Make a decision and take action to implement the decision.

CLARITY comes from making decisions and taking action while Indecision and inaction ONLY produce CONFUSION.

The longer you stay in indecision not taking action, the more you judge yourself, beat yourself up, the less confident you become, which only makes the decision even harder.

Only you can decide whether a decision is right or wrong. No one can prove beyond a reasonable doubt whether a decision is right or wrong. That’s why you get to decide the best decision for you — not for anybody else — for you.

I joined a mastermind about a year or so into starting my business. I was super-excited about it when I made the decision, but somewhere along the way, I stopped believing that I had made the right decision.

Here’s what that looked like, when I believed I made the wrong decision:

Circumstance: I made the decision to join the mastermind.
Thought: I made the wrong decision.
Feeling: Embarrassed (or ashamed)
Actions: Hide, don’t show up fully in the mastermind, don’t do the thought work needed to show up fully, indulge in confusion, inaction, blame myself and the mastermind, judge myself for being so stupid and gullible, take tentative action, just check the boxes so I can say I tried and it didn’t work
Result: I make my decision the wrong decision.

My point of all this is. That what YOU believe about the decision is the only thing that makes it the wrong decision. There is no factual basis that makes it right or wrong.

Because ….
If what you believe is the ONLY thing that makes it the wrong decision, and
If YOU are in control of what you believe (and you are),
That means that you are also in control of making the right decision EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

And that’s so awesome!!

So, how do you do that? How do you NEVER make the wrong decision again?

Simple. You just decide to believe that every decision you make is the right decision for you. And you decide, “That’s my story and I’m sticking to it”, whenever the doubt, the second-guessing and the insecurity kicks in.

The decision you already made is a circumstance. Just decide what you want to believe about it. And make the decision about what to believe about your decision based on the result you want, NOT based on the decision you already made.

What would that model look like when I decide to believe that I made the right decision? Let’s take a look.

Circumstance: I made the decision to join the mastermind.
Thought: I made the right decision.
Feeling: Confident (or certain)
Actions: Show up fully in the mastermind, do the thought work on what’s not working, ask for help, I take meaningful and powerful action, I keep trying, I don’t give up
Result: I make my decision the RIGHT decision.

If we want the “right” results, we need to find the belief that creates those results. And that has nothing to do with the decision we made and everything to do with what we believe about the decision we made.

How was this the right decision for me when I decided to join the Mastermind, even if I didn’t get the outcome I thought I wanted from it?

Well, I learned a lot of things and made a lot of great connections to amazing people. I have no way of knowing in this moment what that might lead to, but I can TRUST myself and God and believe that it will lead to something amazing.

How will I show up when I do that? In a way that is much better, much different from how I would show up if I kept believing that I made a huge mistake.

When you’re in the decision making process, self-coach, get coached, and question your thoughts about the decision. Get the information you need to make the decision, then make the decision.

After you make the decision, the decision is a circumstance. And you get to believe what you want to believe about that circumstance. Whatever gets you the best result for you is what you should believe.

Each right decision makes you more confident in your decision making, which means you’ll be less likely to get stuck in indecision. Because you’ll trust yourself to make the right decisions. And because you trust yourself to make the right decisions, you’ll make more decisions and more of those decisions will be right, because you’ll make them the right decision.

What’s the difference between the right decision and the wrong decision?  A thought.

If you want to get more information and some tools to help you practice making good decisions, I have a page on my website that has more resources, including Four Simple Keys to Making Good Decisions to help you to stop making the wrong decisions in your business. Below is a link to the toolbox, so you can go grab it and start getting more clarity and taking more action.

Ep 11: What does it take to make money?

What does it really take to make the money you want to make as a coach?

It takes a shift. In your identity. In your belief.

In this episode, I expose another lie that keeps coaches from making the money they want.
But that’s not how you get unstuck. How you get unstuck is by asking for help from a trusted professional.

How do you learn how to make money?

How do you learn anything?

By doing it.

Why does it seem so scary to learn how to make money?

Does learning how to fly a kite seem scary? No. How do you learn how to fly a kite? You watch someone else and think, “That looks easy enough. I can do that.” And there’s not a lot at stake. Worst case scenario – you lose a $5 kite. Not a big deal.

You’ve watched other people make money. You have some ideas about how to make money. What if you thought the same way about making money as you thought about flying a kite, “That looks easy enough. I can do that.” What’s keeping you from believing this about making money?

What are you believing about making money that makes it scary?
What are you believing about your abilities that means there’s a lot at stake? What’s at stake that is keeping you from making money in your business?

Are you like me or some of my clients, who once believed,
“I’m not capable.”
“I’m not a good enough coach to make money at it.”
“I can’t figure it out.”
“If I don’t know how to make money now, I guess I’ll never learn.”

Think about all the things you didn’t know how to do before you learned.
You weren’t born knowing anything.
Other than breathing, eating, sleeping, pooping.
Anything you are able to or know how to do now, you had to learn at some point.

You didn’t know how to raise children before you did it. What made you try that? What led to you learning how to raise kids? How many did you have before it got easier?

You didn’t know how to ride a bike before you learned how. You might have even had to go through a few scraped knees or elbows before you got the hang of it.

You didn’t know how to drive a car before you learned how.  You might have had a few scraped fenders before you figured it out.

Who hasn’t made mistakes on the way to learning something new?

What are you making it mean when you make mistakes when you’re learning how to make money as a coach?

Think about all the things you’ve had to learn and practice in order to get better at them. Think about what it meant when you made a mistake learning it. You probably thought it’s normal to make mistakes when learning something new. Why can’t you believe this when you’re learning how to make money in your business?

The more mistakes you make the faster you learn. Whether it’s being a good parent, learning to ride a bike, fly a kite or making money in your business.

What do you know? What have you already learned? What mistakes have you made and learned from? How will this help you apply this to make more money?

It’s my mission to make sure that women like you recognize the value you have within you and that you give yourself permission to fully access that value to create the business you want making the money you want.

If you’re stuck, not sure how to translate what you have to offer into making money in your business, it’s probably because you’re another unfortunate victim of a limited money mindset.

I can help you with this. I have a FREE VIDEO to help you confidently make offers and coach on money objections. You’ll be so glad you learned a new way to think about these. Get it here: https://jillwrightcoaching.com/money-lies/
